WGSN's associate trade show editor Caroline Attwood and I agree that lightweight layering, transparency and beautiful basics are emerging as strong trends for mens and womenswear at Magic this season, confirming WGSN's trend forecasts for Spring/Summer 2010.
Caroline, who is covering menswear at the shows, also told me she saw lots of purple tones, especially in the urban and street sections. Other womenswear trends include ditsy florals, nautical stripes, intense pattern mixing and plenty of 90s styling.
These confident looks are mirrored by a more optimistic mood on the show floor. A number of brands told me they are not only moving merchandise for Spring/Summer 2010, but are also doing good business on re-orders for Fall.
Overall, the show is looking tighter than it has in previous seasons, with a continued focus on independent, niche brands.
