Magic trends

WGSN's associate trade show editor Caroline Attwood and I agree that lightweight layering, transparency and beautiful basics are emerging as strong trends for mens and womenswear at Magic this season, confirming WGSN's trend forecasts for Spring/Summer 2010.

Caroline, who is covering menswear at the shows, also told me she saw lots of purple tones, especially in the urban and street sections. Other womenswear trends include ditsy florals, nautical stripes, intense pattern mixing and plenty of 90s styling.

These confident looks are mirrored by a more optimistic mood on the show floor. A number of brands told me they are not only moving merchandise for Spring/Summer 2010, but are also doing good business on re-orders for Fall.

Overall, the show is looking tighter than it has in previous seasons, with a continued focus on independent, niche brands.

What happens in Vegas...

Or more to the point, what else happens in Vegas?

If you're stuck for interesting places to go and inspiring things to see during your trade show downtime, WGSN is here to help.

Downtown is where the Vegas story began 100 years ago and now, with its grungy arts scene, dive bars and vintage stores, it's a natural hunting ground for Vegas hipsters.

One of WGSN favorites is The Attic on Main Street - a good vintage and costume-hire store crammed with retro costumes, bric-a-brac and furniture, not to mention a couple of caged parrots.

And to keep you from melting in the insane desert heat, we highly recommend Luv-It Custard.
