Our first Global Fashion Awards takes place next month on November 10th and is set to be a great night, celebrating fashion around the world. We have awards for the most influential design team and designers, outstanding visual merchandising, best new store and top etailer, as well as the most innovative digital initiatives and best marketing campaigns.
We're also very proud to be honoring two fashion icons: Harold Tillman and Iris Apfel.
Now in the fourth decade of his career, Tillman learnt his trade at the London College of Fashion, and in the sartorial melting pot that was Sixties London. His ventures have embraced the changing face of British fashion: from the early transformation of Kilgour, French and Stanbury into the talk of swinging London, to his 21st Century transformation of Jaeger. He's a chairman of the British Fashion Council and in 2009, secured a triumphant 25th anniversary for London Fashion Week.
Iris Apfel has been a huge inspiration for the WGSN trends team since our company began. This 88-year-old New York society figure, interior designer, and co-founder of textile design company Old World Weavers is style incarnate. She’s been incorporating ideas that magazines are touting like they’re today’s news into her wardrobe for decades. Principles that include mixing high and low (“the less it costs, the better I like it”), celebrating ethnic styles (“my tastes go to the exotic"), and accessorizing the little black dress to create “umpteen” outfits have always been part of her style lexicon. She says, “I just mix and put things together the way the spirit moves me.”
